According to figures gathered by Nielsen/NetRatings, Americans carried out 5.7 billion searches on the Net in January 2006. 48% or more than 2.7 billion searches were done via Google alone and the company made 12 cents in revenue per search.
Total year-over-year increase in searches was 39% between January 2005 and January 2006.
"Web users are conducting more searches not because they can't find what they're looking for," said Ken Cassar of Nielsen/NetRatings, "but because search as a utility has become deeply ingrained into people's everyday lives."
